What is UTa.gs?

UTa.gs is a URL shortener which allows you to add the charity of your choice within your link allowing your customers to share your cause and donate if they choose to. It is part of the UTags family, where U can make a difference with very little effort outside of your normal day-to-day activities online.

How does it work?

Website owners, bloggers and tweeters can use a UTa.gs link and include the charity of their choice.  Consumers then click on the shortened UTa.gs link and will see a banner for one of the charities selected by the link owner. The consumer can choose to donate by clicking on the donate banner which opens in its own window or just go ahead and read the content they originally clicked on.

What if I want to change charities?

Changing charities is as easy as checking a check box.  If you pick an initial charity but decide to change that charity 3 days later, you just log in to the UTa.gs management console, check the new charity , hit save and the new charity will instantly show up.

What if I want to change my link?

Its easy to change your link with UTa.gs.  Log in to the UTa.gs management console, click on change my link or customize my link, make your changes, hit save and it instantly updates.

What if my link isnt working?

Unlike other services, UTa.gs will never disable a link unless it violates our privacy policy.  If for some reason the link isnt working when clicked, its most likely the source website and in most cases, will resolve itself quickly.

How do I log in?

Its easy; you can go to UT.ags and click on the login link near the top of the page or go ahead and click here to login in now.

Will you ever disable the link?

UTa.gs has no plans to disable existing links  unless they violate our terms of service.    We do however, provide the capability to our customers to disable a link and include a message to their customers.  This may include a message as to why the link is no longer valid or an entirely new link the customer can click on.

What kind of content can I connect to?

We work with multiple website owners, bloggers and tweeters.  We do our best to block malware, viruses and adult content. Other than that, its really up to you as to who you read or follow as those are the people that will use a UTa.gs link that youll eventually click on.   We do have an update bar on UTags.com that shows some of the recent content and youre more than welcome to click on it if you so choose.

What kind of security do you have?

UTa.gs is very concerned with security and has implemented both malware and virus protection within the UTa.gs system.  What does this mean for you as a user? It means when you click on a UTa.gs link, you can have the piece of mind that were doing everything we can to protect you as a customer with the latest state of the art, detection software that blocks almost all malicious content.  As no system is 100% perfect, we also include a screenshot for each page listed in our system as an indicator of the content to expect. Your security is our highest priority.

Do you sell my information?

UTa.gs does not sell your personal information. 

Why shouldnt I use other services?

By all means, use anyone you like.  UTa.gs provides a similar service but allows website owners, bloggers and tweeters to include the charity of their choice to share with their customers and help drive donations to nonprofits.   You have traffic, please use it to help others.

How did UTa.gs get started?

A friend and I were talking about how life happens right in front of you.  I live in California, and on live TV we watched a gas main blow up in the middle of a quiet neighborhood, killing people and wreaking havoc. We were horrified.  This could happen to you, your friends or your family.  It was national news for 3 or 4 days and front page news locally for a couple of weeks, inspiring people to want to help.  But once the hype died down, so did the contributions.  The problem is that there are families still homeless, struggling family members left behind of people that died and many lives that were affected by that one huge incident.  We realized that most people see whats happening when its right in front of them, but forget it when its not on the news and not top of mind.  We decided to do something about it.   Weve paired existing technology with the ability to let people choose the charity of their choice to share with their friends, family, readership and followers.  We hope youll participate and help drive donations to the charity of your choice.

What happens to the money you collect?

UTa.gs does not collect any charity funds directly.  UTa.gs includes the charity banner that the website owner, tweeter or blogger choose when setting up their shortened link.  What youll see as a consumer is the nonprofit banner at the top of page when you click on a shortened link.  If you click on that charity banner a new window will pop up and youll be taken to their normal donation page.  You can then donate as you so choose.   Once youve completed your donation, you can close the window and you can continue to read your original content.
