A community motivated website was promoted in early 2005 by a team from ESPN and was later acquired by the Microsoft National Broadcasting Company who has sponsored this website for news provided by its users as well as people from the field of journalism. MSNBC calls this website %u2018Newsvine%u2019. This website is running from Seattle, Washington.
First time users of the website have to register at %u2018newsvine.com%u2019 to give their comments or if they just want to write a news article. Users post their write ups there, provide links and have discussions on the news articles. The website lets the users post links that other people can see making it a news grapevine site. Its main aim is to combine large and small journalist media without neglecting the freelance individual. This website is not to be confused with %u2018News Vine%u2019 which is a music blog site sponsored by the Music News Room.
There is an innovate logo designed for %u2018Newsvine%u2019. This icon is always next to the name of the user. Newsvine Logo represents a seedling with six branches denoting achievement, courtesy, random expression, connectivity, longevity and fruitfulness. This logo also should not be confused with the news vine logo of Bluegrass Vine Records.
To test how smart its users are, MSNBC gave a chance each Friday through the MSNBC News Quiz to ascertain whether they retained the news data that they had absorbed during the week. This quiz has been discontinued of late. At Newsvine, we can gather news from recognized organizations like ESPN and the associated Press and at the same time read stories from individual users all over the world.
